Magdalena Göbel specializes in dispute resolution, litigation and arbitration.

 

Before joining MANNER SPANGENBERG, she completed her legal traineeship (Referendariat, Second German State Exam, Hamburg 2022) with stages at the Permanent Court of Arbitration (The Hague, Netherlands) as well as the International Dispute Resolution Practice Group of McDermott Will & Emery (Frankfurt a.M., Germany), where she was particularily involved in investment treaty arbitration. Furthermore, her legal training led her to the Department of Human Rights of the Federal Ministry of Justice (Berlin, Germany) and to the Office of the Attorney General of Hamburg. In addition, she has already worked for MANNER SPANGENBERG, where she assisted Dr Jan Erik Spangenberg as tribunal secretary in a DIS arbitration. Prior to her legal traineeship, she also gained experience as a research assistant in the Litigation Department and International Arbitration Practice Group of Latham & Watkins LLP as well as the Dispute Resolution Practice Group of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer.

 

Magdalena Göbel studied law at Bucerius Law School in Hamburg (LL.B., 2016; First German State Exam, 2017) including an exchange semester at Fudan University in Shanghai (China), where she focused on international arbitration and Chinese business law. For her studies abroad, she was supported by a scholarship of the Westphal Foundation for exceptional adademic achievements. Since her studies, Magdalena Göbel has been involved in the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court. She won the Best Memorial Award in the German National Rounds in 2015, coached the winning team of the German National Rounds in 2016 and organized the German National Rounds in 2019. Meanwhile, she supports the Jessup by serving as judge in the German National Rounds as well as the International Rounds in Washington, D.C. (USA). Magdalena Göbel also worked as Managing Director of the Bucerius Alumni Association and now holds the position of Secretary General since 2020.

 

Magdalena Göbel’s working languages are English and German. She also has a good knowledge of French and Spanish as well as a basic knowledge of Mandarin.
